Maudsley Method

The Counseling Center of Maryland® offers a compassionate approach to treating eating disorders through the Maudsley Method, also known as Family Based Treatment (FBT). At CCM we use this method to support families, especially teens, through the recovery process. The Maudsley Method is all about involving parents directly in their child’s treatment, making them a crucial part of the recovery journey. At CCM, we believe that having a strong family support system is key to making lasting, positive transformations in your child’s life.

In the first phase of the Maudsley Method at CCM, parents take charge of their child’s eating to ensure they get the nutrition they need. This first step is about restoring the child’s physical health while simultaneously breaking the cycle of disordered eating. By offering these tools and strategies, our skilled therapists at CCM are able to guide families every step of the way through managing this responsibility with care and understanding. As the child starts to regain their health, we’ll gradually help them develop healthier relationships with food and their bodies.

As this eating disorder treatment progresses, your child will start to gain more control over their eating habits, and we’ll then begin focusing on other important emotional and developmental needs. Throughout the entire journey, the Counseling Center of Maryland® provides continuous support to both the child and their family with the goal being to create a collaborative and understanding environment where everyone feels heard and valued. By working as a team, we hope to achieve sustainable recovery and empower families to navigate the challenges of eating disorders with confidence and resilience.
