Dating after a break up

November 26, 2019

Dating after ending a relationship that broke your heart may seem like the scariest thing in the world. Self-protection is natural and not wanting to get hurt again is normal, but if your ultimate goal is to find love again, you must be able to take the risk of getting hurt again in order to find a happy and positive relationship.

  1. Have a positive mindset: A positive mindset leads to positive behavior, which in turn increases your chances of a positive outcome.

  2. Remember what you do and don’t want in a partner: Since leaving your last relationship, take time to reflect about what worked and what didn’t, what kind of person you deserve and need, etc.

  3. Make sure you are healed: Dating comes with a lot of ups and downs. Pay attention to how you feel. Are you still feeling like you want to text your ex? Do you constantly think about them? Maybe you’re not ready to fully invest in a new person yet if that is the case.

  4. Don’t Compare: Your ex is the past and everyone you meet is unique and has different things to offer. Comparison is the thief of joy.

  5. Take things slow: Pace yourself. Don’t feel pressured to constantly be setting up dates, or to take a potential relationship too quickly right off the bat.

  6. Focus on other things besides dating: It is easy to go crazy and just focus on online dating. But there are more things than a replacement partner.

  7. Be Yourself: You’ll never find your true match if you’re not being authentic.

Most importantly, listen to your gut when it comes to dating and make empowered and healthy choices. Putting yourself and your happiness first is key. If you are struggling getting past a breakup and with the dating scene we can help. We will provide you with actual tools for change while navigating the challenging dating environment.
